Sorry I keep changing my site. I liked the other one's background but hated how you couldn't really read the posts clearly.
Hold on a minute because I just have to say something..
I'M ON VACATION! AND...I'm staying home with my wee ones and relaxing. As Kristin would say, PJ and I are going to get close. I finally feel like I'm going to have enough time. I can't wait to refocus on my blog and lesson plans.
Okay, back to the point. I feel really good about 70 followers and finally understand how the blogging world works. I feel like I am committed (PS commit is my OLW) to keeping this up and improving on it. So I'd like to pay someone to help me develop a look that really feels like me. I have to say I'm not as cute as most First Grade teachers are. I don't love cutesy things. I wear black or white and jeans or army green almost every day, really. I'm not a punker or anything, just not very cutesy. I don't wear makeup. I'd like my blog to reflect that. Maybe not BLACK, but funky and classic and simple. Can I do that? Who can help me? Do you know great bloggers who design blogs, headers, buttons, etc? Please leave a comment if you do!
I also want to begin to develop binders for each month of my teaching. This is my first year in First Grade and I have been just testing the waters this year, but I want some things that are more concrete for next year. I want to know what I'm doing and where I'm headed. I loved the way I did math this year, but I want to add math stations. I loved the way I've shared my love of reading and retelling and comprehension, but I need to work on phonics and conventions.
I still have a provisional certificate and this is the year I can make it professional. I only need one more observation and a portfolio of 20 items of evidence to prove that I understand each of the 10 standards (2 proofs for each). I might need your help everyone. My mentor is meeting me in my classroom on Thursday to help me. I am thinking about creating an electronic one. What do you think? Do you know how to do this?
That's it. That's all. Carry on, but help me if you can please. I want to use this week to get some of this accomplished. Thanks!!
Hi Kimberly!
ReplyDeleteI just had Lauren from The First Grade Diaries do my makeover and I love it! She was so easy to work with! Kind and helpful too!

Thanks Jenn! I am on it! :)
DeleteLauren did mine, too! I love! She will work with you on whatever style you choose! AND don't apologize for not being cutesy! Embrace what you love, girl!!

I used blogbugdesigns.blogspot.com. I won a free template when Kristen had a giveaway. She was very helpful.

If you find a blog look that you like {you might want to check out blogs that aren't teacher blogs..cuz let's face it, we tend to be cutesy} you can scroll down to the very bottom of that blog and usually find who designed it. Click there and it will take you to their site/blog.
ReplyDeleteGood luck - I'm getting a makeover {that I paid for} in March. Mine, however, will be cutesy...lol}...can't wait to see what you end up with.
Woo hooo to one week off...thank goodness...it couldn't have come at a better time!

Hooray for you and PJ! Lucky duck!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's anything wrong with non-cute. If it makes you feel any better, black, white, beige, gray, and army green are staples of mine. I do like my cute classroom but that's about it. Sounds like you got some good ideas on who to hire but if you need one more, I loved my lady. I feel like mine is completely unique and she was great to work with. So you can check her out on mine site on the left hand side.
I have no idea what you're talking about with all of this proving . . . I student taught, interviewed for a job, got hired, and proved nothing. Thank God they let me keep my job. :)
Hi Kristen,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a lot going on! Good luck with it all.
Drat :)) I wish you were redesigning your blog later in the year cause I'm in the middle of learning how to do all that stuff -- hoping to start a little business. But your bloggy friends have recommended some great people. I bet you'll love your new look, whatever it is !

I was recommended by Kristin of Teeny Tiny Teacher and I am happy to help develop a funky but classic look for you. I've been doing blog design for 4 years and have done several teacher blogs.
ReplyDeleteHi there~ So glad I found your blog! I'm going to vacation in Maine this summer...Harrison. Found a beautiful home (log cabin! Big Bear Cabbin?) to rent and I can't wait. Every time I visit Maine, I leave with such wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find your blog designer. I agree about looking through zillions and scrolling to bottom to see the designer.
I'm back in first this year and had spent nine years in first before. Since it's my first year back after a 4 year hiatus, I feel like I have lots to catch up on! Hang in there. It's been a great year so far but I know next year will be even better as I carve out my vision. This year, I'm going with the flow and will change it up more to fit "me" and "my kids" next year.
I'm following you!
