Community is one of the themes we are supposed to teach in our district. So this could coincide beautifully. I have begun to research these authors and illustrators and am keeping notes on my research in another area of my blog. Click here to view.
I think one important thing that I need to do is write some grants this summer to get money to pay for Maine books for my library. I also need to get the word out there that this is how I want to stock my classroom library so that people can make donations to my room. Luckily I know how to write grants since I used to work for non-profits and I have a special graduate degree in Non-Profit Administration and Management.
Such a great idea, and so many talented Maine authors and illustrators to choose from! :) Of course Blueberries For Sal and One Morning In Maine leap immediately to mind in the picture book category :)
ReplyDeleteI love that idea! I also love vacations at the library and home. I'm working on a field trip that will be a walking tour of an older part of town that used to be its own village. It has maintained a quaint close community feeling. I think it will end at the candy emporium! Dark Chocolate!!

As soon as I saw it, I LOVED your blog design. Knew it was "Maine" at first glance (and I am from the other side of the continent!). Good luck building your Maine library. I think that instilling in our kids the knowledge, culture, history and love of where they live is a fabulous gift.
