Daily Word Work

It's taken me a long time to find some word work that I think is helpful to the students, can be done independently, and shows me what they are learning. Each week the kids do the same four word work "sheets". I change them depending on what we are learning. So the template is the same, the work is different.

On Monday, we do a starts with, ends with, in the middle...click here to see it.

On Tuesday, I use something that Barbara from Grade ONEderful shared. Click here for her original post. Then click here for my version.

On Wednesday, I do a say, write, and stamp which is similar to what a lot of other teachers do. Click here to see mine.

On Thursday, I use something Kristin from A Teeny Tiny Teacher sent to me that she uses to assess writing. I just changed it around a bit so it ties to what we are working on. Click here to see it.

Feel free to use any of these things if you can. The only thing I really need right now is something for Friday. Any ideas?

  1. That's a great plan! I'd like to come up with a similar plan for work that I put on kids desks in the morning. I especially like the sentence scramble! Thanks for sharing. One Friday idea might be something I've done called Read, Write, and Draw. I posted some under Daily 5 word work. I've also just used a piece of paper, folded it into thirds and written a word in the first column, then the kids write the word in the second column and draw a picture of it in the third.
I can't wait to see what you come up with. I'm sure it will be great!

  3. Fridays are my chickadees favorite, because they get free choice reading for morning work (books that don't have to be their just right books).

  4. My suggestion for Friday is pick a book and resources from Just Right Books from Susanna Leonard Hill's blog on Perfect Picture Book Friday selections. Pick a book for your age group and look at the resources for your class discussion. :)

Hope I'm not out of line, not being a teacher or anything. Just saying...lol..:)

Is it weird to say that I do not remember that plant writing??? And I hope no one is pretending to be me??? :)

    1. Ha! Yours wasn't about plants, it was the third trimester assessment about school. I just took out the parts that related to your writing program and then I add sentences about what we are working on each week instead.
