Show Me How

A while ago I discovered an amazing person, writer, and educator named Vivian Kirkfield. She wrote a fantastic book called SHOW ME HOW!  BUILD YOUR CHILD’S SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH READING, CRAFTING AND COOKING.

Vivian also has a great blog called POSITIVE PARENTAL PARTICIPATION. This blog and book do more than just talk about how nice it would be if parents interacted with their children and helped them grow up to be happy, intelligent, well-rounded people. Vivian has worked hard to give concrete examples of how to play, cook, read, and craft with the people you love the most in the world...your children.

I taught pre-school when I first got out of college and, though I was only 21, I found myself giving parents tips on how to play with their children. People need to share what they know so that parents can feel better about parenting and children can develop their first really great relationships.

My hats off to Vivian Kirkfield for furthering that message in action not just word. All schools with pre-K and/or Kindergarten should have a Positive Parental Participation team and this book should be the text.
