This lovely story helps kids look around and find words and draw pictures and develop stories. I talked with them about creating our own word tree. They love the idea.
The writing stories process is more difficult than you would think. All these K's have a million stories to tell, but they struggle with how to write them down. I recently read a great idea where K's would share their stories using voice recorders. The teacher would put the recordings on the classroom website so that they could see they were instant story tellers. I want to try this idea too and I might extend it to 2nd graders to have them voice record summaries until they feel comfortable writing them.

Love the idea of voice recording. I love to have kids dictate stories to me and then practice reading them, so they can read them to the class! Isn't Rocket awesome? Your so lucky to have gotten to go to school today...Some people didn't get to!
