I am currently immersed in researching and exploring ways to use technology seamlessly in the K-2 curriculum. I find that currently many teachers are using technology in addition to the curriculum or as edutainment. Neither is very creative, nor sustainable. I don't know the answer yet. I do know that we need to think about technology differently. We need to stop being scared of it and understand that it is a tool we can use how we want. It may amaze us.
When I think about what I thought of blogging just over a year ago and how it has come to be a part of who I am. I know that classroom technology will feel that way eventually.
Thank you to Tammy at Forever in First for this Saturday Sayings concept.

I find that I use technology more and more seamlessly throughout the day. I would love to hear more about your research on this topic. It has been fun for me to see how technology has evolved through my 24 years of teaching/parenting. I try to use it as a tool and not a toy with my class. I never want to use it as a babysitter!!

We use technology to support curriculum through Compass Learning and IXL. I think that these programs are okay, but I would like to see better ways of engaging students. I posted a writing idea this week that would allow students to write and then publish digitally. I think this idea supports the CCSS. It is also fun!

Moving into full kid integration and seamlessness is my technology goal. Keep sharing your research and findings -- please :)

Yes, keep sharing your findings.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this isn't new, but one way I started using my smart board with the class is during reading. I let two kids come up and take turns with the pointer as they read all the weekly poems we've learned over the year. They love it!

A Wise Owl sent me! Thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts on incorporating technology into the classroom in meaningful and purposeful ways. I love technology, but sometimes it has too many glitches and ends up taking up too much time. I have to feel pretty comfortable with the program before I like to implement its use with my first graders. I do not know if you are familiar with Reading A-Z, but it has a lot of good leveled readers. For whole class reading I have printed off books relating to phonics skills we are working on. I then project the projectable version for all to see. The projectable version enables you to highlight and have an interactive experience with the text. If students get lost, they can look up and find their spot or they can just follow along on the board. It has improved whole class participation among my students. We highlight words that fit the phonics skill and then students highlight in their book. I look forward to following you! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to what you uncover with technology. I wrote a post for DigitalIS (A National Writing Project Site) two years ago and unfortunately, the issues I was having with technology then, persist. Here's the link if you are interested in reading it: http://digitalis.nwp.org/resource/1735
ReplyDeleteWe still need to get together sometime for our Maine Writing Group! I'm heading out for a snowshoe before it gets too cold-enjoy the rest of your day!
